How’s an Agent like a Nanny?

by Michael Garside on August 4, 2010

Wouldn’t you like to know that your chosen real estate’s sales consultant is conscientious, efficient, professional, enthusiastic, tireless and committed? As a seller, you are employing an agent to look after the sale of the most significant financial asset you have, your home. Amazingly, most sellers choose their sales consultant from nothing but self-promoting hype!

In most other businesses, employers insist on both verbal and written references when taking on someone new. Probably the most significant employment situation any family can make is the employment of a Nanny. After all, you’re entrusting them with your greatest emotional asset – that of your family. Nannies are the most heavily referenced employees in the job market. So why should you treat your sales consultant’s any less? There are managing the sale of your most valuable asset, your home.

Intending sellers can avoid potential problems by thinking of themselves as employers, and doing the appropriate reference checks on real estate sales consultants before making a decision. This will greatly increase the likelihood of a successful and low-stress real estate transaction. Every day we hear of disgruntled sellers who complain about their agent’s lack of courtesy and notice in arranging appointments, not being punctual, as well as the more serious problems of lack of information and feedback on the progress of their sale.

Check your prospective agents’ references before hiring them to sell your property.

Carefully interview and reference-check agents before you employ them. It could greatly change your future.
